Analysis of Animal Health Checks and Meat Inspection by Animal Health Voluntary from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Brawijaya University on Eid Al-Adha in 2019

Abstract


. Slaughtering animals on Eid Al-Adha, reqires supervision of veterinary officers and voluntary. In 2019, the Faculty of veterinary medicine of Brawijaya University fielded students and lectures to supervise the slaughtering of animal on Eid Al-Adha. Total valuntary that involved in animal health checks and meat inspection are 743 person. The purpose of this analysis is to determine the number and distribution of sacrificial animal during Eid Al-Adha, to descripe the antemortem and postmortem inspection as well as the assesment of slauhtering practices.

The methodology of this reseach is used descriptive data with stuctured questionnaire. Total data that collected during this reseach is 554 respondents.

The results of the analysis of the description of the number of cows examined were 2447, 1263 sheep and 7479 goats. Animal health examination officers from FKH UB are distributed to the islands of Sumatra, Sulawesi, West Java and DKI, Central Java, East Java and Bali. The most common antemortem abnormality in cattle is skin disease (22.4%) while postmortem abnormality in cattle is the discovery of liver worms in cattle (54%). The most common antemortem abnormalities in goats and sheep are abnormalities in the head (25.2%) while postmortem abnormalities in cattle are the discovery of liver worms in goats and sheep (60%). As many as 38.5% of slaughterhouses are still handling handling together with meat slaughterhouses. As many as 46.4% of slaughterhouses pack meat and beef in one package.

The conclusion of the assessment of animal health checks is the need for assistance in the framework of communication, information and education of the process of slaughtering sacrificial animals and providing sacrificial meat
