Abstract

Bovine papillomatosis is a disease caused by a virus that usually affects cows and other domestic animals. The clinical symptom of this disease is many mucocutaneous warts on the scalp, tongue, insertion of milk, penis, oral cavity and upper gastrointestinal tract, which causes losses to farmers. In Indonesia, detection of this disease is generally carried out with clinical symptoms. This research was conducted to detect bovine papillomatosis by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Samples were collected from several cattles showing clinical symptoms and tested by the PCR test that has been developed. The results showed that the PCR test is sensitive to detect bovine papillomavirus, and of the 12 samples collected from the farm, 11 samples showed positive results. Preventive action needs to be taken by applying the principle of biosecurity to reduce transmission to other cattles.
